An afternoon at the Nordic Embassies

On a rainy Sunday, there are worse places to take a toddler than the Nordic embassies' building. The lack of security at the door -- no metal detector! -- was so refreshing. It chimed with my stereotypes of the Scandinavians.

Nominally we were there for an exhibit on Danish furniture design but really it was just fun to potter around the sleek wood-and-concrete interior. I preferred the exterior out of focus; do you agree?

The little library had a wonderful book on the history of the Finnish design house Marimekko. I love the large woman in the photo on the right. Now I feel like revisiting their new Berlin shop.

Sadly the future-perfect cafeteria (run by Munch's Hus) is only open during the week. But this Thursday they're serving venison stronganoff with a pumpkin seed-potato puree. Yum!

lovely glass in the first photo. are they lighting fixtures? the out-of-focus exterior seems to soften an otherwise gloomy architecture.

These photos are wonderful and I think I'll try to find time this week to go along myself and check out that café.

Oooo, that cafeteria looks interesting...

I'm just back from a couple of days in Berlin and wanted to thank you for posting about the Nordic Embassies.
Since i read your post, the location was on my *to-do-in-berlin*-list, and i went this tuesday for the small exhibit about islandic writers and had lunch at the cantine, too.
Great ! Big portions, good food, and cheap :-)
I had some salmon filet with spinach-ricotta topping and ebly-carrots with it. Delicious, though i couldn't finish the whole plate. With a Bionade i paid only 6.50 euros.

Thanks a again for sharing. And i am looking forward to my next Berlin-trip, Hudson's is also on my list ;-)
